How to Make the Most out
of a Massage Visit
(Information provided by Pura
Vida Day Spa)
1. Start off right:
Get
there at least 10 minutes early to decompress,
use the restroom and complete paperwork. No
point in stressing yourself out trying to get
to a relaxation appointment.
2. Communication:
- Tell
the therapist about any injuries or tense
areas and be honest on your intake form.
-
If you don't want to talk throughout the massage,
you can tell the therapist: "I'm going to
drift off. Do you need to tell me anything
else before we start?"
- If
the pressure is too much/little: "Can you
lighten up/go deeper there?"
3. Ask their expertise:
What
they would recommend after learning more about
your body? Would you benefit from a deep tissue
massage? How often? Are there any stretches
that you could do at home that would be beneficial?
4.
Exposure / Modesty:
It's ok to be modest-some people prefer to keep
underwear on. During massage, the only areas
exposed would be what part of your body is being
worked on.
5.
At the end:
- If
your skin feels too oily after, you can ask
the therapist to wipe off any excess oil w/
a warm towel or request to take a shower.
-
To prolong the relaxation, drink plenty of
water following your massage and take a hot
bath. Massage works lactic acid out of muscles,
and proper hydration and warm water help flush
it out of your system.
-
As massage therapy is a service-based business,
it is standard to leave 10-20% gratuity.
-
Book a return visit if you enjoyed yourself-see
if you can work it in to your lifestyle.
