Bringing the Movie Experience Home
You
sink into soft and rich leather seats as the
lights dim; the screen drops and drapes open
to reveal the trailers of upcoming features
in surround sound. The smell of fresh buttered
popcorn fills your home theatre as you control
your personal entertainment world all from the
safety of your own home. There will be no late
night weekend drive, no sticky feet theatre
feel, no heads to see over or voices to hear
over just pure theatrical magic by design and
design is where it all begins.
When
Scott Dalman of Team Cinema receives the call
for a home consultation for the planning and
execution of a Home Theatre, the first step
is to listen and understand just what the client
is looking for their home theatre. How many
family and friends they will be accommodating,
the space they have available and a ruff budget
is discussed and then comes the expression of
design.
Design
The
design phase begins with measurements, and the
selection of a theme décor and color scheme.
It may be Art Deco or Ultra Contemporary; it
may flow with the decorative themes of the home
or depart all together. Whatever the client
envisions is brought to fruition. From Grecian
columns and recessed wall sconces to a stage
in front of the screen for theatrical families,
whatever may add to this focal room of your
palace is explored. Visual design is only one
aspect of the design phase as Acoustic Modeling
or the designing and controlling the sound is
what elevates the a home theatre to it's commercial
counterpart. Sound panels, properly placed will
reflect or defuse sound creating the perfect
balance and illuminating noise, which can result
from too much sound reflection. Speaker Placement
is also critical in achieving optimum surround
sound to fully appreciate Feature Films as they
were intended to be experienced. Light controlled
and absolute darkness during presentation is
also planned in the design phase. The integration
between motorized drapes, the dimming and rising
of the lights, the screen dropping and the projector
powering on are all carefully planned by design.
In
the phase of design, drawings are made that
include the behind the scenes command center
of the theatre where the racks, cabinets, equipment
and wiring are all detailed as well as the lobby
and actual viewing area of the theatre. While
planning the indoor theatre many clients choose
to create an outdoor entertainment area with
surround sound audio and visual components so
they can show a movie inside while other guests
listen to music outdoors or view a football
game.
Theatre
Seating
Theatre
Seats are expected to be comfortable and durable
and to accommodate a drink but there are subtleties
that set great chairs apart. When reclining,
can you view the screen comfortably? Are the
seats big enough but still able to fit enough
seats to accommodate the amount of people you
anticipate in your theatre? If your theatre
will be more intimate, for a couple or small
family, loveseat or sofa seating may work well
in the theatre. The design intricacies of chairs
are many, from straight or curved contours to
wood paneling, velvets, leather, or the selection
of your own designer fabric to coordinate with
your theatre walls and your home décor. The
experts who partner with you to create your
theatre will assist you in making the perfect
selection of theatre seats.
Execution
The
design and execution of a home theatre is one
of the most enjoyable of "remodeling" projects
because unlike a kitchen remodel, it is usually
planned for a room where your daily activities
will not have to be relocated or uprooted. Considering
the amount of time and pleasure you and your
family and friends will receive from the home
theatre, and how much money you will save by
staying in to be entertained, this addition
to your home is very affordable. While costing
about the same as remodeling other rooms, this
project pays off in savings of entertainment
dollars in your budget year after year. The
scope of some home theatres may not require
any remodeling at all but with the addition
of luxurious theatre seats, surround sound and
the perfect audio visual equipment to your entertainment
space, may achieve dynamic results.
In
the execution phase as all of your designs come
to life, it is important to accessorize! Your
popcorn machine will stimulate your sense of
smell and taste and as the lights dim, screen
drops and curtains open to the dynamic cimematic
sound you're used to have to go out for. In
attaining your home theatre you will comfortably
realize that this one addition to your home
whether a midsize home or a mansion is probably
the best addition to the Orange County lifestyle
you have accomplished.
