Huntington
Beach, the third largest city in Orange County,
has an estimated population of 202,250 (2007).
Also known as 'Surf City', Huntington Beach is
famous for its 8.5 mile stretch of beaches, mild
climate, and excellent surfing. This city hosts
the US Open of Surfing and countless other surfing
events each year which attracts some of the top
surfers from around the world.
A
popular place for hiking and wild life viewing
is the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve located
on the Pacific Coast Highway. This large marshy
wetland is home to nearly 200 bird species including
many rare and endangered species.
One
of Huntington Beach's favorite landmarks is it's
pier which stretches more than 1,800 feet into
the ocean, and offers a great place to watch the
surfers, fishing (complete with bait shop and
fish cleaning stations), plus shopping and dining
at the end of the pier.
