The City of Dana Point offers adult co-ed leagues in Softball, Chicago Ball (16” ball) and Kickball each summer. Games are played at the Del Obispo Fields in Dana Point and games are played on Monday or Wednesday evenings.

Basketball Leagues

City of Dana Point Youth Basketball League
Ages 6 - 9 years

Come join the fun of youth recreation basketball offered by the City of Dana Point. League open to boys and girls, ages 6-9 yrs. This is a low-key, instructional basketball league. Games will be played on Saturdays at the Dana Point Community Center, with game times starting at 8:00am and running throughout the day. Cycling & Mountain Biking

MOUNTAIN BIKING LOCATIONS:

Aliso & Wood Canyon Wilderness Park: Located in Aliso Viejo in Orange County, California. The park offers a variety of terrain from the most challenging of singletrack to the smoothest of fire roads. The park is closed for three days after any rain to prevent trail damage. Maps are available at ranger station.

  • Parking Costs: $2.00 (exact change required for the machine)
  • Facilities: Off of the parking area.
  • Difficulty: Beginner to expert
  • Trail Users: Almost entirely bikers and hikers. Not many equestrians.

Whiting Ranch

Very popular for the novice rider. Please use caution when riding. Especially if you are a beginner. You'll have to learn what your limits are and when to slow down. A little bit of info for advanced riders

Directions: Exit Interstate 5 at Lake Forest Drive and head east for 4-5 miles until you get to Portola Ave. Go left on Portola, past Bake Ave. and turn into the Ralph's parking lot on the right hand side. Towards the far left end of the parking lot you will see the entrance to the park and designated parking. Make sure you put money in the box or it can cost you a big fat ticket.

  • Parking costs: $2.00 in the lot.
  • Facilities: Off of the parking area
  • Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate
  • Trail Users: Mostly bikers, but equestrians are common, hikers also are present

Crystal Cove State Park

Also known as El Moro Canyon in northern Laguna Beach. This trail  provides a great opportunity for excellent loop style rides. The park is almost entirely fireroad with a few good singletrack exceptions. The park landscape differs from that of almost any other park in OC. It is mostly open grassland and open hills with minimal trees.
Directions: El Morro Canyon is located on Pacific Coast Highway between Laguna Beach and Corona Del Mar. Park in the State Park parking lot and make sure to bring a crisp $5 bill for the parking machine. Parking tickets are no joke to the rangers.

  • Parking costs: $5.00 (requires exact change for the vending machine)
  • Facilities: Off of the parking area
  • Difficulty: Intermediate to Expert
  • Trail Users: Almost entirely bikers

Saddleback Mountain

(Santa Ana Mountains) These trails are some of the most interesting and diverse places to ride in all of OC. They range anywhere from rolling fireroad to the steepest and loosest of singletrack.

Directions: Exit the 55 Freeway at Chapman Ave. east. Chapman becomes Santiago Canyon Road as you cross Jamboree Blvd. Proceed 12.8 miles to Live Oak Canyon Road (Cook's Corner) and turn left (there is no right). Continue 4.4 miles to the Trabuco Creek crossing (just past Rose Canyon Road) turn left onto the Trabuco Creek dirt road. You can park here and ride about 5 miles to the trailhead, or drive to Holy Jim Canyon Road (just past the fire station). The parking area is on the left. From south county, exit Interstate 5 at El Toro Road and go east 7.6 miles to Live Oak Canyon Road. Turn right and proceed as described above.

Their Flag football division for 5 to 6 year olds offers a fantastic introduction to Pop Warner Football for both kids & parents. Full contact football is available for kids 7 to 15 years old and from 45 to 145 pounds.

The Playpen

The Playpen is a military-style obstacle course at the Newport-Mesa YMCA. Programming is based around learning the skills needed to conquer the obstacles while building strength, endurance and balance through functional fitness based workouts. ROLLERBLADING:

Saturday Fun Roll

Meets every Saturday morning at 10:30a.m. just north of the Huntington Beach Pier at the amphitheater for a skate of approximately 16 miles round trip. The pace is nice and easy and all ages and levels are welcome. They make several rest stops at various points to let everyone catch up. If you miss them at the beginning, just skate south on the beach path, they retrace the route back, so they'll eventually meet. It's highly recommend that you wear all protective gear - at least wristguards and a helmet. Afterwards you can join everyone for lunch in or around downtown Huntington Beach.

Los Alamitos 'Race on the Base' - Los Alamitos
September 23-24, 2022

The yearly event has continued to provide not only a forum for local avid runners and walkers, but has also instilled a sense of pride and teamwork between the Los Alamitos City Council, the citizens of Los Alamitos, the Rossmoor Community Services District, and the local business community.

The race is held on the run ways at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos and features helicopters, planes and military vehicles with music throughout the course. Events and activities for the whole family!

Honoring the United States Marine Corps Dark Horse Battalion, this favorite Memorial Day running event takes place in the beautiful Orange County cities of Laguna Hills, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Woods, and Laguna Niguel. Runners and walkers of all experience levels are invited to come out and enjoy the Memorial Day festivities!

Summer of Mud Run

Celebrate summer by running (or come cheer on the runners!) the approximate +5k course beginning and ending at Irvine Lake. The course is partially on the road and partially on trails and includes hills, water, professionally built obstacles and over a dozen mud pits. You asked for even more mud, you got it! You will get wet and you will get muddy. Be sure to bring towels and a change of clothing.

The family and pet-friendly Annual Laguna Niguel Family YMCA Run in the Parks is back in person! We are excited to celebrate the 43rd year of bringing this annual community and family tradition to celebrate Independence Day. This year we are offering two options, a 5k and a Kids Run. Every race entry fee directly benefits the YMCA scholarship fund. This fund supports those most in need in our community. Over the last three years, we have all struggled with the impacts of the pandemic, some more than others. We are proud to stay that through it all we remained open (when we could) and provided scholarships to those most in need because of funds raised from events like this one. The Y is here for you, for the community and for good.
